Spent some time tweaking my Portfolio layout. Liking the direction it’s headed in so far today.

Felt inspired to do something based on my MacBook Pro Purchase of yesterday. Also too tired/ill to do anything too intensive… Enjoy.
PermalinkSome time during my University Work last semester I porduced a fancy little controller for my images, loading the full image into a page but only displaying a segment of it, until clicked upon.
It works quite well, I think, and today after being asked about it on Twitter, I decided it was time to turn it into a plugin. It’s a very much in-testing release at this stage, but it should work for it’s intended putpose. Let me know what you think!
Examples of it in use can be found on my IMD Learning Log.

Developing more elements of my Portfolio Redesign. Today - Comment Form
Permalink
So, when I said earlier that I was taking it easy, it would seem I was lying. Update #2 for the day!
I spent some time sketching out how I want my comments to look and, after thinking about it, I’ve gone and coded it up too. All HTML and CSS, with the only embedded image being the avatar.
I also wanted to style the comments so that alternating comments looked different, alternating between different styles, with a third style being applied to comments posted by the author of the individual posts. All in all, I’m quite pleased with how things are looking so far.
PermalinkToday is my birthday. I was going to do some fancy wallpaper but I’m honestly far too tired to do so.
I’ve spent some time tweaking and retweaking my Portfolio Site. Nothing I can really show off just yet though.
PermalinkToday sees the launch of a site I’ve been working on a while for a good friend of mine. You should all go check it out ;)

I think it’s safe to say that I’m making progress with this design for my friend’s Web Site/Portfolio/Blog Site.

Today I put together some favicons for a few of the projects I’m working on. The Keilantra Codex, The Belfast Mela 2010 and my own Portfolio.

A very much Work in Progress Visual Comp of my friend’s site redesign. Some of the text is messed up size wise as my font management software is acting up.
PermalinkHolding page for my friend’s site whilst I polish off the full design.
PermalinkOver the last day or two there have been some tweaks going on with the server that hosts my portfolio. This resulted in a lot of down time happening on my webpage.
I’ve now implemented a basic page that will provide a basic message to the user explaining that something bad has happened. When it does this it will also send me an email to let me know something has broken.
I’ve also configured it to make sure that I only get one email per person that visits the site, courtesy of a little cookie that lasts for an hour or until my site is back online, whichever is the shorter period of time.

Today shows a slightly more developed version of my Jquery Image Switcher. Images are now dynamically inserted using Jquery.
Whilst setting this up I have also decided to expand the functionality ever so slightly, to allow the topmost image to direct you to the relevant portfolio entry.
PermalinkI’ve been putting some thought into the redesign of my Portfolio site. One of the important things to do with a portfolio is, quite naturally, display your latest work. People are coming up with more and more creative/unique/different ways to do this and it’s something that I wanted to do myself. A lot of people make use of impressive rotators or lightboxes to display their work, I’ve even done so myself in the past. This time I felt like doing something different.
After taking a look around the internet I found myself really liking the way that Symphony CMS provides a series of screenshots of their software. There was only one problem that I had with this, it’s a static image. Whilst that isn’t a problem for something like their CMS, as it is only updated periodically, as someone with multiple projects currently it would get quite tedious to continually be editing a static image. This required me to think about howelse I could implement a similar design whilst keeping it dynamic.
In the end I settled upon using a combination of CSS and Jquery, using CSS to position elements and Jquery to enhance the functionality. The link above is a basic implementation of what I am looking for, but you should be able to see what I am aiming for with it. Oh, and try clicking the different images.

Today sees what will probably be my final post about the Belfast Mela Site.
Client didn’t seem too pleased with the design I had produced, and I provided him with this revision.
Pending the accepting of this I should be able to get to work on getting other client work done, so you should start seeing some more Photoshop stuff and site screenshot stuff.
PermalinkBeen spending some time re-acquainting myself with PHP generated images, to use for some design testing I’m working on for my Portfolio Redesign. The above link will take you to a page where a load of coloured blocks are generated via the power of PHP.
